Pond garden should not
look like they were plunked down in the middle of
nowhere. Ease transition from the garden landscaping
to the water feature.
Find a natural position for a bridge, if you use one.
To look like it belongs, there must be
a reason for
its existence. The bridge must be part of a path going
somewhere, not merely used to connect two sides
of a lawn.
Aquatic plants do their best in full sun, however,
constant sun can cause problems for fish. Either make
sure the pond is deep enough to maintain the oxygen
levels needed by fish, site the pond in shade, or
build some type of lath work to shade the area. The
point here is "build the right habitat".
People are irresistibly drawn to a pond. So, position
it next to your patio or deck, if possible. ideally,
the vantage point will be shaded.
Undisturbed water forms a mirror capable of reflecting
nearby objects. Falling water has a hypnotic sound and
relaxing effect on people.
Include both still and moving water in your pondscape.
Garden ponds should echo
and enhance your yard. If the
garden is formal, consider rectangular or circular
ponds.
If it is naturalistics, design
undulating edges.
