The Basics of Replanting (Repoting) Orchids |

It's
time to repot your orchids if you notice the
following:
1. The orchid has outgrown its container
2. The potting mixture does not dry out within
a week
3. The foliage is now turning yellow
If you see these signs then its time to replant
your orchids and here's how.
1. First, you must select a pot that will
accommodate your plant and one that will
allow new growth.
Then fill it with about a third full of orchid
bark. |

2. Soak the orchids plant together with the original pot in
water and then drain.
Gently tap the side of the pot to loosen and allow the plant to
slide out. If the plant doesn't come
out easily you have to break the container to remove it.
3. Gently pull apart the roots and remove the old
potting mix.
Healthy roots are white and firm with light green growing
tips. Dead roots are soft and brown.
Use a pair of bypass pruners to trim dead or damaged roots.
4. Place the orchids plant in the new container and secure by
filling the remaining two-thirds of the
container with bark.
Roots should be level with, or 1/2 inch below, the rim of the
new container. Top with a
decorative soil cover, such as moss.
5. Secure the orchids plant with a stake and twine. Water the
plant and let it drain thoroughly.
This will allow the bark to settle into the new container.
